Is durian toxic to dogs?
Durian flesh is not considered outright toxic, but Singapore clinic Paws N’ Claws recommends avoiding it. Its richness can upset digestion. The clinic also warns that seeds can obstruct the gut.
How much durian is safe?
Our cited sources do not provide a validated dose by dog weight. A measured amount is not a guarantee of safety.
A dog with an existing health condition needs advice suited to that condition. Merck’s pancreatitis reference explains that pancreatitis has several risk factors and can cause vomiting, poor appetite and abdominal pain. It does not establish a durian-specific safe dose.
What if my dog already ate some?
Remove access to the fruit and packaging. Note what was eaten, approximately how much, and when. Share those details with your vet, particularly if a seed was swallowed, the amount is uncertain or your dog seems unwell.
Keep any ingredient label. Do not try a home treatment or induce vomiting unless your vet directs you to do so.
What about durian desserts?
A dessert has more ingredients than plain fruit. Check the label rather than assuming the whole product has the same risk as durian flesh.
