Pet insurance comparison

Singapore has four pet insurers (Liberty, Income, MSIG, Etiqa) and Malaysia two (Oyen, MSIG). All exclude pre-existing conditions, all have illness waiting periods of 14 to 90 days, and most stop taking new pets at 9. Filter by country, pet and age, then enter a vet bill to see roughly what each plan would pay.

The payout estimate assumes the claim is fully eligible (past the waiting period, not pre-existing or excluded) and uses the entry-age co-insurance band. Real payouts depend on the policy schedule; premiums are shown only where an insurer or a dated review publishes them. Figures as of 2026 from our insurance guides.

How this tool works

Plan terms are taken from the insurers' product pages and policy wordings as of 2026, cross-checked in our insurance guides. The payout estimate applies the plan's deductible, then the co-insurance band for a pet enrolled at its entry age, then caps at the lowest tier's limit (per incident for Liberty, per year for the others, lifetime for Etiqa). It assumes the claim is eligible — past the waiting period, not pre-existing, not an exclusion such as vaccination, sterilisation or dental.

Premiums are printed only where an insurer or a dated review publishes a number; "quote only" means the insurer does not publish a schedule. Age eligibility uses the entry-age ceiling; renewal ages differ and are in the policy wording.

Frequently asked questions

What is the pet insurance waiting period in Singapore?

Accidents are covered immediately (Income) or after 14 days to 1 month (MSIG, Liberty, Etiqa). Illness claims start after 60 days (MSIG), 90 days (Income) or 3 months (Liberty, Etiqa). Hereditary conditions usually need 12 months and enrolment before age 6.

What is the best age to buy pet insurance?

As young as the plan allows — 8 or 16 weeks in Singapore, 12 weeks in Malaysia. Co-insurance is locked at its lowest band for pets enrolled before 4 or 5, hereditary cover needs early enrolment, and anything diagnosed before you buy is excluded for life.

Does pet insurance cover vaccinations, sterilisation or dental?

No. Every plan in Singapore and Malaysia excludes routine and preventive care — vaccinations, deworming, sterilisation, grooming and dental cleaning — unless a wellness add-on is bought. Cover is for accidents and illness.
